(Is that the right saying, or is it hodge podge?). We have finally completed the main living areas to our satisfaction, aside from a few minor decorating things and some non-essential rennovations we'd like to make in the future.<br /><br />We'll start with the dining room and kitchen. Here is a reminder of what they looked like in the original listing:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrn3J-v327mAZxCU0sM7qyw7tSbKvwzGBEcXic79llPCB0SaJSeaOVRZXfEK5wnUHenriWfEC5iTRltIRHSzKl9r1yZ6KXJxouF1FdkkF0kpoO8jRVtTFAKz44aJM2ptVqFVukHfEhAcGz/s1600/Dining+Room.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 242px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494644424091988162" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrn3J-v327mAZxCU0sM7qyw7tSbKvwzGBEcXic79llPCB0SaJSeaOVRZXfEK5wnUHenriWfEC5iTRltIRHSzKl9r1yZ6KXJxouF1FdkkF0kpoO8jRVtTFAKz44aJM2ptVqFVukHfEhAcGz/s400/Dining+Room.jpg" /></a> <div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsT2r_ubiF6ZN61h1LwlaVFK7J6j8YgKzlleiVGkNob_Dr2djob2XvRjEwzu3f5hRkhzIqGraG_yXqaue5gW7HMnCLEgemivSvT47GTuiAffiFuWheay6u-ODQEbcghElHcapE-xqzU_Hh/s1600/Kitchen.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 242px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494644359308738578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsT2r_ubiF6ZN61h1LwlaVFK7J6j8YgKzlleiVGkNob_Dr2djob2XvRjEwzu3f5hRkhzIqGraG_yXqaue5gW7HMnCLEgemivSvT47GTuiAffiFuWheay6u-ODQEbcghElHcapE-xqzU_Hh/s400/Kitchen.jpg" /></a><br />In the kitchen we changed out all light fixtures except for the track light that we would like to replace with a track pendant light for island lighting, we painted all the cabinets white inside and out and added hardware, painted the walls and backsplash, replaced the outlets, switches and covers, replaced all appliances except the fridge, had the linoleum replaced by hardwood floors and purchased and re-vamped an island from Craigslist to add some more counterspace. Eventually we would still like to replace our original laminate countertops with granite tile and travertine tile backsplash and replace the sink and faucet and track light.</div><div><div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQrV9IdHrfV9yqsxFnU5hjDfQIu6lv5XBbMDfXdWv-bq7gSMIPDkszKzm1ckJxpuWSu4EOibh6Fv9gucoB_qoKeL6NuR7uXydit0D8lYIM_DmFmAPJEB3cGOYOCVISKcb1v9XpHl80ZPQL/s1600/a2.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494644271860227170" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQrV9IdHrfV9yqsxFnU5hjDfQIu6lv5XBbMDfXdWv-bq7gSMIPDkszKzm1ckJxpuWSu4EOibh6Fv9gucoB_qoKeL6NuR7uXydit0D8lYIM_DmFmAPJEB3cGOYOCVISKcb1v9XpHl80ZPQL/s400/a2.JPG" /></a>This is a picture of the food set up after we had the neighbors over for a "get to know you" party.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuTml_Duzr1lOYA1qC4-jYsIPWXiZ3edaD8CLKUKMmeYYYglfP245N0z3FWYFXZfBPbYMUbDzcb0UNfJIbKuqqNQR-KwhI09vQ-Jn7WJOuBFScMdgNW3ynjJVs031MWda4XWT3orhfxyZA/s1600/a1.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494644193604021378" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuTml_Duzr1lOYA1qC4-jYsIPWXiZ3edaD8CLKUKMmeYYYglfP245N0z3FWYFXZfBPbYMUbDzcb0UNfJIbKuqqNQR-KwhI09vQ-Jn7WJOuBFScMdgNW3ynjJVs031MWda4XWT3orhfxyZA/s400/a1.JPG" /></a>In the dining room we haven't done much, but we did replace the old window coverings (and added satin ribbon to the ones we purchased from Target), Paul replaced the light fixture, we had the hardwood installed and I re-upholstered our dining chairs with a shower curtain because I just couldn't find any fabric at Joanns that I liked! I still need to find some artwork for the wall next to the dining room table, but I just can't decide on anything that I love yet.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGP4-mLLqGgBt-cDXixXHu84i4WzNS67lG7ST_ubMSxWk6S9KNN0FHPNnKeDcDwQIBwRikQ2GHjRFSeVy0WVrs2eeZCVqZZo8vu8TdV9T85aZgvDRvkKdYTLbiSQ748maJ9VUKRharIFkQ/s1600/a.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494644051006409090" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGP4-mLLqGgBt-cDXixXHu84i4WzNS67lG7ST_ubMSxWk6S9KNN0FHPNnKeDcDwQIBwRikQ2GHjRFSeVy0WVrs2eeZCVqZZo8vu8TdV9T85aZgvDRvkKdYTLbiSQ748maJ9VUKRharIFkQ/s400/a.JPG" /></a>Here is a picture from the original listing of the family room:<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb0cb4Sag-A7j9AOBNP5w3UvPRVZTGZfWG4kCKqR8hchp0LnDVYsqsBDrrDdWuPK_T77LKj-Hm_w5_mm1E-Ayt7JdReVutc-P1irPuaQZfAhGr6NMvFzLUgFz-Vn2MMFqnjymrHpbpBY1T/s1600/Family+Room.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 242px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494643920200885426" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb0cb4Sag-A7j9AOBNP5w3UvPRVZTGZfWG4kCKqR8hchp0LnDVYsqsBDrrDdWuPK_T77LKj-Hm_w5_mm1E-Ayt7JdReVutc-P1irPuaQZfAhGr6NMvFzLUgFz-Vn2MMFqnjymrHpbpBY1T/s400/Family+Room.jpg" /></a>There has already been a post where I explained most of what we did in this room, so I will spare you from the repetition, but there are a few things that have changed:</div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWgngdkH5FJ0UMqpp2eIRqkn95wiedrvRxlBpd2TwseqMogTvlTrfLVf_7aWJk0zmZFtr9qE3MZLrKCNDIoSEqIAA4VVntStCLQOFEKGwefb9B9aq5Ftb1tctcRyHkqcR6N-yWbUyIu82M/s1600/031.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494643801732567698" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWgngdkH5FJ0UMqpp2eIRqkn95wiedrvRxlBpd2TwseqMogTvlTrfLVf_7aWJk0zmZFtr9qE3MZLrKCNDIoSEqIAA4VVntStCLQOFEKGwefb9B9aq5Ftb1tctcRyHkqcR6N-yWbUyIu82M/s400/031.JPG" /></a>On this wall I did two stencils around the collage of black frames. I still feel like the art display is a little disproportionate to the wall because it looks too small, but that is the way it is staying for now. Maybe in the future I will paint over the stencils and add a row on the bottom and a row on one side, making it a collage of 18, instead of 10.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDFhmV3lAPiZqvMA8Bs4lJmtR7Hqeey7io_qCu7tEBN-R0et1ioqqZKMiTw8POU9k5BD1NlHGbuEgLJYeF5bcULEdIhecWoVgOdmlsuG-phJI5sSyy7PrJdzBj_Ro_RpRCA2uyw7eJyC3g/s1600/a1.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494643660607791202" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDFhmV3lAPiZqvMA8Bs4lJmtR7Hqeey7io_qCu7tEBN-R0et1ioqqZKMiTw8POU9k5BD1NlHGbuEgLJYeF5bcULEdIhecWoVgOdmlsuG-phJI5sSyy7PrJdzBj_Ro_RpRCA2uyw7eJyC3g/s400/a1.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh45cET5oF7iSK7TOWetCv7hCqLTLXTIRS3xrA20AsblvILHGx3-o63LHeaDsRgMfoXqFWIIkhV7m89-X-kz0BZrOHpsVZ-N09j2mxxf70H12X1K9EnF3wvs88onH9I9kUNAfsao9JRfCHm/s1600/003.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494643225549195778" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh45cET5oF7iSK7TOWetCv7hCqLTLXTIRS3xrA20AsblvILHGx3-o63LHeaDsRgMfoXqFWIIkhV7m89-X-kz0BZrOHpsVZ-N09j2mxxf70H12X1K9EnF3wvs88onH9I9kUNAfsao9JRfCHm/s400/003.JPG" /></a>After searching for months on Craigslist and not finding anything that met Paul's approval for a desk, we broke down and bought one at Target. I replaced the knob with a pretty blue ceramic knob from Hobby Lobby, but I don't think you can tell in this picture. I like the size of the quilt on the wall, but you'll notice the corkboard to the left of the desk on the floor. I would like to hang that next to the quilt on that wall and pin cards and letters that we get to it, but Paul doesn't like the idea, so instead it is still sitting in the same spot as in the picture where it's been for the last month. :-) I'm hoping if it sits there long enough, maybe he'll decide it would look better on the wall than on the floor! ;-)<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxiDQldKoHSr-1RFzo85tw6NtXBnwYDGZPE42zStSE71_KCbUgfgzFI6jPMsN8sU6MIK6xO1PSJtPadelPIrOOt9P6Nkd8xYsQ-BMnP8appB3WAkel_fPiYZHMOmiT1HCrLeDjOLmVqi5/s1600/a.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 267px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494642693720584930" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxiDQldKoHSr-1RFzo85tw6NtXBnwYDGZPE42zStSE71_KCbUgfgzFI6jPMsN8sU6MIK6xO1PSJtPadelPIrOOt9P6Nkd8xYsQ-BMnP8appB3WAkel_fPiYZHMOmiT1HCrLeDjOLmVqi5/s400/a.JPG" /></a>To remind you of what the formal living room looked like in the original listing:<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibjXPm5kcXJWtLYXcdY-RLIrULJbfIMSI-md22fpocQ6iA8ZXNSxiwat7KaBrAkR50gendEb9_l_Qcl4us_zCMDU1eDi1iCHBH4RRt0aOVFzSAuGFpXWzKA37u_XzE1-qJCQ5LsQiF5BSx/s1600/Fireplace+Room.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 242px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494642532362279842" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibjXPm5kcXJWtLYXcdY-RLIrULJbfIMSI-md22fpocQ6iA8ZXNSxiwat7KaBrAkR50gendEb9_l_Qcl4us_zCMDU1eDi1iCHBH4RRt0aOVFzSAuGFpXWzKA37u_XzE1-qJCQ5LsQiF5BSx/s400/Fireplace+Room.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Y7ufrSC-Un_yMdpW4LhZ3Mwfh18C13A7ke1VBn5AjTVJcky4qEOXWhfw6q2WBBzAansf2cN41SBZKuRCWgr3pQc1pGKNtK-deD1V5sWz5rVO7VzrPUAOgxtRwnjPlz0TQ4BcXznv08MG/s1600/034.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494642335278838290" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Y7ufrSC-Un_yMdpW4LhZ3Mwfh18C13A7ke1VBn5AjTVJcky4qEOXWhfw6q2WBBzAansf2cN41SBZKuRCWgr3pQc1pGKNtK-deD1V5sWz5rVO7VzrPUAOgxtRwnjPlz0TQ4BcXznv08MG/s400/034.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsgPifv_UwTxk2EWRnVJZosWHIXGO6sjIu-A5voT75A1vIsq9piBKLGMNTsKxmQW-xjcL0NS4zp0gc502OlnOuxjG-gYaOApT81Ax6TGJrSq-he_au2xbNq9G99kHbEJpU9rVdcu9WQK9v/s1600/005+(2).JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494642131466810914" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsgPifv_UwTxk2EWRnVJZosWHIXGO6sjIu-A5voT75A1vIsq9piBKLGMNTsKxmQW-xjcL0NS4zp0gc502OlnOuxjG-gYaOApT81Ax6TGJrSq-he_au2xbNq9G99kHbEJpU9rVdcu9WQK9v/s400/005+(2).JPG" /></a>We did a ton of "work" (meaning really simple things to make it look better) in this room! We don't have any artwork on this wall yet, as it is so huge that it leaves a lot of opportunity!<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-0y1HZjG_vwtg_nh2iX6-7u3P357zYYI5tigyBJpgO22otGrcbDYv4jY4n5u21NsXrxMJ6_-Qd9PI5iRjJOhvqID3bX2CztRPaRxBgGh9qRQ26igtK6EkqzkdR3kAMC12l_aIHIMUoQEm/s1600/099.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494640796293798562" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-0y1HZjG_vwtg_nh2iX6-7u3P357zYYI5tigyBJpgO22otGrcbDYv4jY4n5u21NsXrxMJ6_-Qd9PI5iRjJOhvqID3bX2CztRPaRxBgGh9qRQ26igtK6EkqzkdR3kAMC12l_aIHIMUoQEm/s400/099.JPG" /></a>With a little (not so good, because I didn't want to spend too much time on it) photoshopping, you can see what I have in mind as far as the art for this wall. They sell this "clock" out of Britain and it comes with the 12 different colored frames and the clock mechanism. I think it would be a fun way to display some photos and little pieces of art that can easily be changed out when my mood changes. :-) It's easier than committing to one large permanent piece!<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWlBihcfL8pJE7_pc23w8JPXO7sONMBYG2sAS0650GctgCgMkwRwi7rSi6eVyDl1-xwbNwpHo_f5wDrH7CnRwpvNJ5WSk4j1nrFcVxkEF6efhwdMlkuVq6aqb0wliTxpEcyy-sA5pim9Ep/s1600/a5.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494640586620471890" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWlBihcfL8pJE7_pc23w8JPXO7sONMBYG2sAS0650GctgCgMkwRwi7rSi6eVyDl1-xwbNwpHo_f5wDrH7CnRwpvNJ5WSk4j1nrFcVxkEF6efhwdMlkuVq6aqb0wliTxpEcyy-sA5pim9Ep/s400/a5.jpg" /></a>There you have it! The next two projects are the downstairs guest bedroom and our Master bedroom, but I doubt if either of them will get completely finished before the end of the summer considering Paul and I have to be back to school in less than a month! We found this one for $20 and it was the shape I needed and had two drawers-I always love more storage! It was a little beat up from the previous owner but was sturdy, so it still fit the bill. I sanded the entire thing down, primed it and then painted it with a couple coats of black paint. I had Paul's help to cut down the legs about 5" so it was at more of a typical coffee table height. Then I added some blue antique looking knobs and got to work on the top. For the top, I measured where I wanted my buttons to be, marked them by making a criss-cross design on the top, and drilled the holes. I then used a spray adhesive to attach my 2" thick organic soy foam to the top. Once that was completed, I poked my upholstery needle up through the foam from the underside of the table, and cut out a little circle of foam right around the needle to allow the button a place to go. I then covered the whole thing with batting and stapled it down. I then laid the fabric over the top and attached the buttons that I made using a button kit from Joanns. I just folded the pleats as I went, but this was the hardest part and isn't a necessary step in the process, I just liked the look. After the buttons were all sewn on, I stapled my fabric around all of the edges! It is much more cozy in our living room now! I am glad I did this project because Paulie and I have never owned a coffee table that we DIDN'T use as an ottoman anyway, so this is perfect! I just added a little tray on top so if anyone needs to set a drink down, there is a place to do it! <div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Materials needed:</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Drill</div><div>Dremmel tool (only for cutting down the legs)</div><div>Sandpaper</div><div>Primer and Paint</div><div>Upholstery needle</div><div>Upholstery thread/twine</div><div>Button making kit from Joanns</div><div>2" think foam cut to size</div><div>Batting</div><div>Spray adhesive</div><div>Fabric</div><div>Hardware</div><div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-HpOwJMs7AloRKO4JLW0mz04gYu1tRVv2Koes-6_7_n8BTvU0Dla7uh4tj23GXPKhgTcyS2OZ57byWlKfaeu0D8WC7CpDzsruvnmrj1ZpjNbaDJ9Nj95eZ8bVekjxf_bNBbN2q1f74_9/s1600/009.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473743802004840034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA-HpOwJMs7AloRKO4JLW0mz04gYu1tRVv2Koes-6_7_n8BTvU0Dla7uh4tj23GXPKhgTcyS2OZ57byWlKfaeu0D8WC7CpDzsruvnmrj1ZpjNbaDJ9Nj95eZ8bVekjxf_bNBbN2q1f74_9/s320/009.JPG" /></a></div><div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwRIKW5yCMtCG4LzOiQke9seiY8wkfCfzabzS3kwSna3WE-aMFadh36me5r2ZdmjE0VokmH47f1qerYvmN3htXKLJ50wFg7fiZ5tuqbMoY4HYtsRKAcyNk_zLeULDLLlXFPuWTUd1B8SQ/s1600/028.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473743792394586146" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwRIKW5yCMtCG4LzOiQke9seiY8wkfCfzabzS3kwSna3WE-aMFadh36me5r2ZdmjE0VokmH47f1qerYvmN3htXKLJ50wFg7fiZ5tuqbMoY4HYtsRKAcyNk_zLeULDLLlXFPuWTUd1B8SQ/s320/028.JPG" /></a></div><div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuN-9YC1fn4HsuNcCEI6IiKcF_yWbebE1hvcCZvlTZga3auXFI_XIWa2JrHfHDfsgTQGh1XcxSmvE4YtgDXicQLvujv-7mzb46JRB95xPRTAq8hEMDIFHLoezDMu8fBhUFUG_w13KLRmp0/s1600/025.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473743788674379970" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuN-9YC1fn4HsuNcCEI6IiKcF_yWbebE1hvcCZvlTZga3auXFI_XIWa2JrHfHDfsgTQGh1XcxSmvE4YtgDXicQLvujv-7mzb46JRB95xPRTAq8hEMDIFHLoezDMu8fBhUFUG_w13KLRmp0/s320/025.JPG" /></a></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-23078390973060268502010-05-15T15:56:00.000-07:002010-05-15T16:21:47.049-07:00Wood Floors<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi29lOARNzVWDMRGjxm3ouvXpp-iVGN8bIpDx0QfHCZwVNsSzvNMhCE5K4hFmfSoNLuEfri5BVh4X3kLXNKA3Wl9j97l0dkVEbWu8lVimsnv_eDD1E2qNhI1BvUior8f2_fcpAeRVscTvRz/s1600/016.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471636606885432066" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi29lOARNzVWDMRGjxm3ouvXpp-iVGN8bIpDx0QfHCZwVNsSzvNMhCE5K4hFmfSoNLuEfri5BVh4X3kLXNKA3Wl9j97l0dkVEbWu8lVimsnv_eDD1E2qNhI1BvUior8f2_fcpAeRVscTvRz/s320/016.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKaVJVndeFurjykEyMCdABR_5OEMAkP8zeEDZnyVa7YkieDnvtR3fsWLTEYQAYB_c1gUPDlR8xETVEnjgrjKsDqonZdIVADf_YnpiRM3T7QccYxQNaL1dyjpK4EjwZWV9mEWUfKAiJbsu0/s1600/019.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471636602058299762" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKaVJVndeFurjykEyMCdABR_5OEMAkP8zeEDZnyVa7YkieDnvtR3fsWLTEYQAYB_c1gUPDlR8xETVEnjgrjKsDqonZdIVADf_YnpiRM3T7QccYxQNaL1dyjpK4EjwZWV9mEWUfKAiJbsu0/s320/019.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdY6HG6AeoRQF3h-9CIjE_iFXuKnnt0w9Ccf8HIS57Gk2oWBwqNE8DDzxtKo1HUIUs5HXu9HSYC7WZeVnxS1MEplWmACIixGNU-cLymBA3Dq8WMJl26Ovu87ELNGtk7OzQjR7mFNLPSuVC/s1600/020.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471636592925084018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdY6HG6AeoRQF3h-9CIjE_iFXuKnnt0w9Ccf8HIS57Gk2oWBwqNE8DDzxtKo1HUIUs5HXu9HSYC7WZeVnxS1MEplWmACIixGNU-cLymBA3Dq8WMJl26Ovu87ELNGtk7OzQjR7mFNLPSuVC/s320/020.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2FT6Q2i01PZI4uTMW-v3nLpeXptY3X88wyJnRJl7CqzKWnjM1sP07BxtqQY0TEgtVsFbMnwMk2uJKM5D0SYWTcIZ0CZVs-oUi1a3W842n2XwjC-nY9vaJJQ9G-f3Uxf_AwNPF6R18sPZ1/s1600/022.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 240px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5471636583218948722" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2FT6Q2i01PZI4uTMW-v3nLpeXptY3X88wyJnRJl7CqzKWnjM1sP07BxtqQY0TEgtVsFbMnwMk2uJKM5D0SYWTcIZ0CZVs-oUi1a3W842n2XwjC-nY9vaJJQ9G-f3Uxf_AwNPF6R18sPZ1/s320/022.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Our cabinet painting project was highly motivated by our desire to get rid of our 1980's linoleum and stained carpet. So as soon as we had that project completed, we called our floor guy up to schedule the installation! In the first picture it gives a close-up of the old linoleum and the second picture is what the house looked like once the carpet had been ripped up and it was officially "under construction". Armando, our flooring guy, told us that he could have the project done in one day...well, little did he know that underneath our linoleum, there was plywood that had been stapled on top of our sub floor that had to be removed before the wood floor could be installed. That removal took almost an entire day! For four full days our house was literally a construction zone with dust coating EVERYTHING! We had sheets up to prevent dust from going into the family room, but we spent hours cleaning up once they were finally done with the installation. Our whole main level looks entirely different now and, although it took longer than we expected, we are definitely happy with the results! All of our main living areas are now officially livable to my standards (of course the linoleum was livable, but the 20 year old stained carpet in our formal living room was a little difficult to deal with, so we avoided the room altogether until now). Hopefully Paul and I can do something with our Master Bedroom come summertime!</div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-42608639588271118472010-04-01T20:23:00.001-07:002010-04-02T00:10:44.193-07:00Cabinet painting project<img style="WIDTH: 320px; The first picture is from the day we moved in, and the second shows how it looked once Paul installed our new appliances (which work great, especially when compared with their 20+ year old counterparts). We have been putting off having our wood floors installed until we could find the time to paint our cabinets, since we knew it would turn our kitchen area into a complete disaster area, I mean, "construction" zone. :-) We decided to spend our spring break working on this so that we could have adequate time to complete it without other responsibilities vying for our attention. We started immediately on Saturday and spent 6 days total to clean, sand, prime, paint and polyurethane both the insides of the cabinets as well as all the doors. After that was all said and done, we put on the finishing touches, which was the hardware. We worked straight through every day, averaging 12 hour days. At one point I was so sore from all the physical labor that I didn't think I would be able to even get out of bed the next day! To some it may not seem to be a very enjoyable way to spend spring break, but I actually enjoyed it more than I anticipated. I got to spend that time entirely with Paul, we worked great as a team and we both can enjoy our kitchen so much more now, especially since we put in the hard work. Aside from the appliances, we only spent about $100 for the paint, supplies and hardware and it made such a drastic change! Our next plan for the kitchen is to make a kitchen island by hitting up our local restoration yard and re-doing some gem we find there. That project may be a few months away, but I am already planning it, so stay tuned! </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-47482716579967364832009-11-23T14:18:00.000-08:002009-11-23T14:54:01.215-08:00Before and After: Bookcase<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMb4U2Y8FF1l8a8hFGfS4k8udWvj1HjvA9NuGKuesL2jvSVkVzYsCJxq00jlTBoJQgHXfAZlxu2SjJWJjvM3R4YoiNUIQwQ0aTN_Y9Z-78YkbjbnHAM684E9CItGFuWofnd-gzgSchXMx8/s1600/027.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407427459575057090" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMb4U2Y8FF1l8a8hFGfS4k8udWvj1HjvA9NuGKuesL2jvSVkVzYsCJxq00jlTBoJQgHXfAZlxu2SjJWJjvM3R4YoiNUIQwQ0aTN_Y9Z-78YkbjbnHAM684E9CItGFuWofnd-gzgSchXMx8/s320/027.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLc8AU76TigT654p-t3lCGZWuFqT-ACAAqTAp2En5iraeTlrBTdR4-f_2pkEgSPz8M8OC-z6Ax1iela8h9Dhfh3JmIgORnAy1EITPPl6gtAfTeHx4YSEZMEEjxWOdEk81YBG8hOdVupqMI/s1600/Family+Room.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 194px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407427455201894738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLc8AU76TigT654p-t3lCGZWuFqT-ACAAqTAp2En5iraeTlrBTdR4-f_2pkEgSPz8M8OC-z6Ax1iela8h9Dhfh3JmIgORnAy1EITPPl6gtAfTeHx4YSEZMEEjxWOdEk81YBG8hOdVupqMI/s320/Family+Room.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxu0fysLU110YEc7ngcVj45odNMb4lF8XtUMLEfwcNCydFM-Cj1yf7gMOXHdD61ClwcjX6Uf82Vjdk9obIWJ58WS7OntfnLMqdRCaYjv51Lg6FYLLQDow7oglfKgqzGEhHGl6cpUYKSwXX/s1600/004.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407427445159038482" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxu0fysLU110YEc7ngcVj45odNMb4lF8XtUMLEfwcNCydFM-Cj1yf7gMOXHdD61ClwcjX6Uf82Vjdk9obIWJ58WS7OntfnLMqdRCaYjv51Lg6FYLLQDow7oglfKgqzGEhHGl6cpUYKSwXX/s320/004.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>The first picture is the "blank slate" picture of the bookcase we made over. The picture with the furniture in it is what the room looked like the first time we saw the house while the previous owners were still living here. A lot of hours later and the "seen-better-days" bookcase (and our first major project) is re-vamped! Paul had the brilliant idea of adding those white curtains at the bottom so we could hide cords and anything else we wanted to have access to but didn't want to be seen. Paul worked so hard (with the help of his dad, Peter and a little bit from me) to get the tv cut-out perfect and to get it painted to my standard of "finished" and now it serves great purpose and makes our family room look quite cozy in my opinion! I used to not know how we were going to use the family room because the first time we walked through the house the room looked so tiny and dark, but now it is my favorite room in the house!</div><div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-65065224865934568922009-11-22T21:25:00.000-08:002009-11-23T01:44:02.637-08:00Late-night Unpacking<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi99Cfkvs39wjWXCRXpMFEdQk0YcE_ChD2_AxDhfGbpTcJHennsoLFuxqm0_JiiwUHxHV2b5gb-saBmB0aPQDFcYjTwQYVpW6Ob-lVPT59HY2qHODZd69JUD9lrTj88dvQ8h1eaKr7YBUzH/s1600/001.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5407166131139358754" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi99Cfkvs39wjWXCRXpMFEdQk0YcE_ChD2_AxDhfGbpTcJHennsoLFuxqm0_JiiwUHxHV2b5gb-saBmB0aPQDFcYjTwQYVpW6Ob-lVPT59HY2qHODZd69JUD9lrTj88dvQ8h1eaKr7YBUzH/s320/001.JPG" /></a> This is what happens when Paul starts bringing in boxes from the garage at 10 o'clock at night! They have an awesome selection of stuff and are always getting new and different items in since they just happen to get whatever was on closeout somewhere else. On a recent visit here were three of my favorite items I brought home: a green glass vase for the downstairs family room (that I got for only $4!!), a tall blue vase (I love the textured glass), and a turquoise garden stool that we may use in the formal living room as an end table. I'm not sure if it will go with what we are doing in there yet since it isn't all put together, but I had to buy it because they only had one of them and once it sold they wouldn't get any more in so at least it will be good to try it out in our space and see if it works.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDnlj32r7H9DXbSKrW78CWMosWT7sVXxCiDuKwWqrVHt2-I4pCjcjNzLwPhTzanGDgxwagu0InETinZN9W_Ae0u0X7zAXaI2_1MAdxf4wS8r8WtUEDcvLOAVLvShwRB6Ydk73KRKe10Nhr/s1600/010.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; Everyone is wanting more storage space and built-ins are huge for resale value right now, but not when yours looks like ours did before! It sucked all of the light out of the room and made it look very dark and dingy in a garden level room with rare high ceilings and large windows. The photo with all of the books on the shelves is what it looked like when we first saw the house. It didn't look like it belonged in the room and actually made it look really small when the space is really a pretty decent size. I didn't have the vision that Paul did when I first saw them and I wanted to take them out completely, but I am glad my wonderful husband saw their potential! Him and his dad worked hard to plan how to cut out a space and rearrange shelves so that it could actually be used as our entertainment center. Once all the cutting and sanding had been done, we got to painting. With the help of our good friend Peter, we painted the backsplash a light mocha color and painted the shelves and all the edging with the Swiss Coffee we used on our trim to make it look much brighter in the room. Obviously we still have a ways to go (the next thing I am going to tackle in the room is going to be those roman shades! Those ugly colored stripes have got to go!) but the major bookshelf renovation is complete!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-70760117201761542512009-11-01T20:05:00.001-08:002009-11-01T20:21:14.794-08:00Small projectsHooray! Not all of them have worked out quite the way we planned! As you notice in the picture of the window treatments the paint is a light blue that, in small amounts, looked great, but on and entire wall looked terrible. The picture of Paul standing on the ledge (or on top of our kitchen cabinets) is him vacuuming the cobwebs from the ceiling the night he stayed up till 3:30 in the morning painting our walls blue. We didn't realize the awfulness of the color until we saw it in the daylight the next day but by then it was two late. 3/4 of a gallon of paint and many hours of painting later and it was all for naught! So the picture of the two window treatments (one of which I have re-covered with a new fabric-the tan and white cherry blossoms) has samples of other paint colors on the wall that we were trying to decide on after seeing how the blue turned out. We ended up going very neutral. We painted Glidden's Natural Wicker on one wall and Glidden's Water Chestnut on the three other walls. More picture of that to come at a later date. Also, Paul has become quite the handyman when it comes to re-wiring light fixtures! There is a before and after picture of the fixture he recently replaced in our downstairs family room. He also replaced the one in our front entry way with the same fixture.<br />The other two pictures are of my latest project. A mirror to hang above our sofa table (once all our walls are painted and floors done!). We got it at TJ Maxx Home Goods store for $18!! It was $60 before but the original bronzed edge had some nicks in it which is why it was discounted. An hour of painting it and some nice Swiss Coffee paint and it looks brand new and much more updated! I can't wait to start putting the accessories ON the wall instead of cluttered around on our floors! One step at a time I suppose!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqXGIYYdcGeqGv_kXng1uFE2U29vuDLEtfoyibbppKneqNyb8X8b_Qb7JvDVVCwJ-h7fhatqnvfzfPGSCiWVDL95WALB0pUMuTC5X-8NKdiOKl9BQnKcgSRixY0ErfWPT1DLoId60xk5HP/s1600-h/011.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; We got almost 2 feet of snow! Paul got an automated call at 5:30 in the morning from Jeffco public schools saying that school was cancelled and shortly after that I received an email saying that my Regis class was also cancelled for the day. We thought we were pushing our luck in praying for another snow day after that but that's exactly what we got! Paul got some painting done and unfortunately I was parked on the couch the entire time doing homework, but Paulie did build me a nice fire in our fireplace each day to help motivate me. A couple of these pictures are from the first day and the rest are from the second day. Paul did spend a good deal of time shoveling our ddriveway to perfection and cleaning off my car (that still doesn't fit in our garage because we haven't fully unpacked yet). Can you see the look on his face that shows just how much fun he is having with the realities of homeownership?? :-) I honestly did want to help him with the shoveling but lesson planning consumed me for those two days!<br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-46660810458636472072009-10-25T00:45:00.000-07:002009-10-25T00:51:04.838-07:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCI7Qj6ylK8npPJfrbP114oQWMLLW4rOZihFYg7W-PgSLhTl5K129Dy9PLgidwDYpmcGpdHRLSoP9SxphARseYP8uVDX9GPGuu8aFzFBZWbcaWN59mun-k26FW3vsopGjiEcAY4Xq7_Bdq/s1600-h/016.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396440926269771506" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCI7Qj6ylK8npPJfrbP114oQWMLLW4rOZihFYg7W-PgSLhTl5K129Dy9PLgidwDYpmcGpdHRLSoP9SxphARseYP8uVDX9GPGuu8aFzFBZWbcaWN59mun-k26FW3vsopGjiEcAY4Xq7_Bdq/s320/016.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOhPE8ynmYzYyV8Ckn3GHAgo6hkdfmWuo6yMPPFRjSUA_wsjK0XiCjD8y1EiI3xUBVZotaThvA-Aa3JHZaL2UBxso5Kl8BQRdItYOho7owcmSkU7r31oi1HcRhMh0vnlYi9Bz4bUf_pLi5/s1600-h/014.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396440919458967474" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOhPE8ynmYzYyV8Ckn3GHAgo6hkdfmWuo6yMPPFRjSUA_wsjK0XiCjD8y1EiI3xUBVZotaThvA-Aa3JHZaL2UBxso5Kl8BQRdItYOho7owcmSkU7r31oi1HcRhMh0vnlYi9Bz4bUf_pLi5/s320/014.JPG" /></a><br /><div>On a whim at midnight Paul and I decided to try and redo the window above our kitchen sink. I made the curtains with the leftover fabric from the seat cushions I reupholstered-the color looks much different in the lighting under the cabinets! So we took out the old blinds that were discolored and falling apart-yuck! and Paul took out the 20 year old light fixture that was above our sink.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrg0SUacMmaafQ3JCj50T1e1GZUaMhz-nfn3nNdmfcusauURRdcaDUD7EdDp9lfB0jgcwfrCt_LSPtYzCvs6K7rFfSzYGZmX2uElH4a_18oUAff4OniUCdq3aOwvM7xVCDlk7FdjJp3Dv/s1600-h/006.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396440909073607570" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsrg0SUacMmaafQ3JCj50T1e1GZUaMhz-nfn3nNdmfcusauURRdcaDUD7EdDp9lfB0jgcwfrCt_LSPtYzCvs6K7rFfSzYGZmX2uElH4a_18oUAff4OniUCdq3aOwvM7xVCDlk7FdjJp3Dv/s320/006.JPG" /></a> We picked this pendant light up at Home Depot the other day because we've been keeping our eyes open for one that was a good price, and this one was the least expensive we've seen! So in just 1 hour Paul and I got rid of another dated window treatment and one more dated fixture! Many more to go, and lots of painting to do still, but it always feels good when we finish a mini-project!<br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-16129392925296008432009-10-23T19:29:00.000-07:002009-10-23T19:38:04.134-07:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrCSmQBSrFkBbCtpSyS7aw0SLFrmzapPZ1vcuQF6lUW-bEGnY9Bi6hyphenhyphenrFwh9Ekg1TjEHkR-ZL3AoaAsJfPJ9foIUpBof2vIga9UqQojUyCah4QsYHZx_nRvu-EVfIlPb9sQS_nplAObpvk/s1600-h/004+(2).JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395988520361710706" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrCSmQBSrFkBbCtpSyS7aw0SLFrmzapPZ1vcuQF6lUW-bEGnY9Bi6hyphenhyphenrFwh9Ekg1TjEHkR-ZL3AoaAsJfPJ9foIUpBof2vIga9UqQojUyCah4QsYHZx_nRvu-EVfIlPb9sQS_nplAObpvk/s320/004+(2).JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMTemjamt8LykcJ-8V8oSVb5WIks3-PPB79U43hy_Zj_BDrpSxmCoj60YqXQ6rxD8UCKB22WA0URmjmCHHxQRpe-aIuqq8sxs3ciCapsguik_w3NBMWRQ94oidISXffnjIjj_3-Rj7jKx5/s1600-h/003+(2).JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395988506675982178" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMTemjamt8LykcJ-8V8oSVb5WIks3-PPB79U43hy_Zj_BDrpSxmCoj60YqXQ6rxD8UCKB22WA0URmjmCHHxQRpe-aIuqq8sxs3ciCapsguik_w3NBMWRQ94oidISXffnjIjj_3-Rj7jKx5/s320/003+(2).JPG" /></a> Here are some before and after photos of our staircase. We primed and painted the railings with about 4 coats and then we coated them with a clear polyurethane to keep the paint from chipping off. The carpet on the stairs is new and the carpet on the main level is still the blue, as you can see in the picture. The edges of the stairs are done "Hollywood" style! We know so much more about carpet and paint now than we did 5 weeks ago, that's for sure! And I love the name of the paint color "Swiss Coffee". It really just looks white to me, but if you've ever looked for a "white" paint, you know that there are about 50 shades of white! We're happy with the way it turned out though, it really gave our banisters an updated look!<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeW9ZWDhlA79yhsoihF8INB5J-6bPWGFBEAgsLQAB9wT9vM2xAw9vfAp4Y6PWIO7t7rO8MAbyzyqTkGSFu1S8qb7u6qjBbnsv94BYul0iKLvbAhrvXYkv-6pEb3jKBhVr9ueG95FlHedy1/s1600-h/036.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395988497845868018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeW9ZWDhlA79yhsoihF8INB5J-6bPWGFBEAgsLQAB9wT9vM2xAw9vfAp4Y6PWIO7t7rO8MAbyzyqTkGSFu1S8qb7u6qjBbnsv94BYul0iKLvbAhrvXYkv-6pEb3jKBhVr9ueG95FlHedy1/s320/036.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e2IUVEDCC2Wfwpz6vqfop9YL-3KQWZ9nMqXYQXynLuNPS0_ObFkY_D4X6SCc9SFJ274tHuBEUBT6cQ1IWXetwAl3GahBidxY4033tYXsVtuqjvfGCgy-I9RhDaYYzhUUWdP-9X8zCAyu/s1600-h/006.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395988494869076146" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e2IUVEDCC2Wfwpz6vqfop9YL-3KQWZ9nMqXYQXynLuNPS0_ObFkY_D4X6SCc9SFJ274tHuBEUBT6cQ1IWXetwAl3GahBidxY4033tYXsVtuqjvfGCgy-I9RhDaYYzhUUWdP-9X8zCAyu/s320/006.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-44027519178320121902009-10-22T21:18:00.000-07:002009-10-22T21:27:34.076-07:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxjcikbEb-MP49_uHbRHhTvfPPJsIyQ9y-MQUWWXByYHd8WB83hgUclBWtbQnGyO_NVzc-XbP6UKoQrAQQMzAh0dqWIpNi8IOwk6WRGfJWu7H_-STmGt0hI_xenwNN_SC4FyX7NQZehyphenhyphenoT/s1600-h/015.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395645989497377250" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxjcikbEb-MP49_uHbRHhTvfPPJsIyQ9y-MQUWWXByYHd8WB83hgUclBWtbQnGyO_NVzc-XbP6UKoQrAQQMzAh0dqWIpNi8IOwk6WRGfJWu7H_-STmGt0hI_xenwNN_SC4FyX7NQZehyphenhyphenoT/s320/015.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt-GWO2QZkbtCluE3dRnYMk2zGW3wsvFcwtL7qfyAhUX1P2dvEiLDPW44cNlRBa3vHuUMASWqfDsXAFFhPk-IBC0Ry6URLwYspomxAEZ1vPIYw334YDWo581CUmouKLbeMc6i-X8n7h0y2/s1600-h/008.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395645981483322322" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt-GWO2QZkbtCluE3dRnYMk2zGW3wsvFcwtL7qfyAhUX1P2dvEiLDPW44cNlRBa3vHuUMASWqfDsXAFFhPk-IBC0Ry6URLwYspomxAEZ1vPIYw334YDWo581CUmouKLbeMc6i-X8n7h0y2/s320/008.JPG" /></a> We bought a dining set on <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">craigslist</span> that I made my project to refurbish. When Paul was sick with the flu I kept myself busy by sanding off the old, light colored finish on the top of the table and re-staining it a dark <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">mahogany</span> color. Then I painted all the chairs and table legs with fresh paint and "distressed" them just a little. I also recovered the seat cushions to go with our color scheme in the kitchen. From previous pictures you can kind of see the old 1980's window treatment on the sliding glass doors-so glad to be rid of those! One window down, many more to go! There are some before pictures of the chairs too. They were supposed to be "distressed" but these chairs looked far too distressed for my taste. The whole project doesn't sound like a lot but it took me a week to complete! It has 6 chairs and a leaf so we can extend it when we have extra company, but without the leaf and just 4 chairs, it is the perfect size for our every day needs-it turned out great! The last picture is of the first snow at our new house! It was taken from the sliding glass door in the dining area looking into the backyard.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iCYcsDd0kQasojDJj4fdF_om9eEv0tYBVKJdPKPk6R8VImDET63SHlwznODcbyoLtySbphy3H18az7rCZAJpudwmC4SshsPlzBl5Afmgsdy_T44nOBVuwv05mMI3dOICm5vk91zn2rrr/s1600-h/006.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395645969057998242" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iCYcsDd0kQasojDJj4fdF_om9eEv0tYBVKJdPKPk6R8VImDET63SHlwznODcbyoLtySbphy3H18az7rCZAJpudwmC4SshsPlzBl5Afmgsdy_T44nOBVuwv05mMI3dOICm5vk91zn2rrr/s320/006.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDAiU_RqY3G6RXdCrI9zVikHqxZLbq8bARG3lRL84CECl5HF55CtzKeAmO8B2JDsWYRnDwZmMol3sjtaqt3oBPIEUyvt3zy1J6ZyllzoFgFVi44V166M62tD55H6-jvQtiOS_s5wEINVNs/s1600-h/005.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395645960964300226" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDAiU_RqY3G6RXdCrI9zVikHqxZLbq8bARG3lRL84CECl5HF55CtzKeAmO8B2JDsWYRnDwZmMol3sjtaqt3oBPIEUyvt3zy1J6ZyllzoFgFVi44V166M62tD55H6-jvQtiOS_s5wEINVNs/s320/005.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH7MMu3h36Y755MhFN77pgcBprgoejM_Lml7TZOgG_Wr5NuQNEnMrsQOZNPQq7jsk5n9elLrehECBXqMGpxmZJafuERLeNVDBZWQwG42AlnYxlm0kLPMmIHWckWm9LPrgsITfrY8gv2G8d/s1600-h/002.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395645955396769330" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH7MMu3h36Y755MhFN77pgcBprgoejM_Lml7TZOgG_Wr5NuQNEnMrsQOZNPQq7jsk5n9elLrehECBXqMGpxmZJafuERLeNVDBZWQwG42AlnYxlm0kLPMmIHWckWm9LPrgsITfrY8gv2G8d/s320/002.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Paulhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10973740993105548538noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7310964437690939982.post-30498703820203705722009-10-22T21:08:00.000-07:002009-10-22T21:18:15.371-07:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ_PlhxulEIlslIWlIWrzE5xv8d7gvmPHp6SWTtfQWCzR1NL2bzeejJ31Hc5pIkoqOFWh_y44Ed5nz2UE2I4ZNhhSVZKmBPiJ6n9ctWF3b4c4PAkdKBbb7o9dpB0aCsIRzEOkXTop-H61o/s1600-h/015.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395643401795684594" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ_PlhxulEIlslIWlIWrzE5xv8d7gvmPHp6SWTtfQWCzR1NL2bzeejJ31Hc5pIkoqOFWh_y44Ed5nz2UE2I4ZNhhSVZKmBPiJ6n9ctWF3b4c4PAkdKBbb7o9dpB0aCsIRzEOkXTop-H61o/s320/015.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjj4goJ9JQEb_DzShX10Cjxoun8XAQhm0iAekHlPZANtjC70qy6d9YXQwRwvKBFktSDuAf9A_gFcmBuI8opZPovhaMIsExD3724YHLhRxE9xJWbhK3VZAlNhrvHgyJD5GZaR0JPESu34jw/s1600-h/029.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395643393841889778" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjj4goJ9JQEb_DzShX10Cjxoun8XAQhm0iAekHlPZANtjC70qy6d9YXQwRwvKBFktSDuAf9A_gFcmBuI8opZPovhaMIsExD3724YHLhRxE9xJWbhK3VZAlNhrvHgyJD5GZaR0JPESu34jw/s320/029.JPG" /></a> I love this huge window in our Master Bedroom! One of my favorite things about our house is all of the natural light! There are two skylights and lots of big windows, even in our garden level family room. The picture from the family room looking into the dining room/kitchen was taken when we came to view the house so it has the previous owners' furniture, but it gives perspective of the openness between rooms. The picture with the book case is in our family room area. We've recarpeted down there since and Paul and his dad cut out a space in the bookshelves to mount the tv but the project isn't completed yet. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLuTMgbxQHVmHje11ioTVYXryPs-zNC9aHFsBodbbAWjo2lg979mBuPplt06wUJ5xzONm2mDaC1wgmT4as0tIeJGyxvpSqAQi_reiVqpsDM1rhyMDuLGElhwAstqJLEdiPB2Qx6f_rQCdd/s1600-h/027.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395643390822682658" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLuTMgbxQHVmHje11ioTVYXryPs-zNC9aHFsBodbbAWjo2lg979mBuPplt06wUJ5xzONm2mDaC1wgmT4as0tIeJGyxvpSqAQi_reiVqpsDM1rhyMDuLGElhwAstqJLEdiPB2Qx6f_rQCdd/s320/027.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgih0J9KOsmJ6j59HSPUBP7liGedzB7Eu3zmgCQIqf20lwBEH-eXKihpMu5vkKlpY60J29RNhnj7VYzAoM7u2EFz7xfxoPl6ezvqfBxQQSrCwH_qYwPcKaVmFWEjdVnMXJPWZTlcjPKbCrl/s1600-h/026.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395643380274629490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgih0J9KOsmJ6j59HSPUBP7liGedzB7Eu3zmgCQIqf20lwBEH-eXKihpMu5vkKlpY60J29RNhnj7VYzAoM7u2EFz7xfxoPl6ezvqfBxQQSrCwH_qYwPcKaVmFWEjdVnMXJPWZTlcjPKbCrl/s320/026.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvtMZE1kG7ejpvSvYj7k9AeMQLoKHj0ZOdZBBFwsdqZNZPe7dS6y12szFO9gi8EhNVHi0W_UQSPmESq7sQgVKkbM-8JfdLaIGUNxfsNCjvM5h1Uhrlly-4c-iULX3RVcEjat5d2rJzSaJ/s1600-h/021.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395643378240373458" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvtMZE1kG7ejpvSvYj7k9AeMQLoKHj0ZOdZBBFwsdqZNZPe7dS6y12szFO9gi8EhNVHi0W_UQSPmESq7sQgVKkbM-8JfdLaIGUNxfsNCjvM5h1Uhrlly-4c-iULX3RVcEjat5d2rJzSaJ/s320/021.JPG" /></a> Our dinette area that has a huge sliding glass door to the backyard. The fireplace is in the main living room as soon as you walk into the house. The view of the stairs and dinette area is from standing by the fireplace. So far we have installed new carpet upstairs and downstairs (the family room-don't have pictures of that up yet) and we have begun to paint the banisters and trim white. In the next couple of months we will be installing wood floors on the main level, so until then we still have the lovely 20 yr. old stained carpet! </span><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcNSox-evJLwyDRDCgP2OJZsxUYshIO0uYGH53xEJoT8an-RJksErk8ICaLUtFXpW3yuEhDyz_QnQ-Jirz2csUckRkTTHdOPV0afHAA7g2bRR8yxACQcG0KDrmyqnXdxTYRG14YRPrkQ8s/s1600-h/010.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395639977113591410" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcNSox-evJLwyDRDCgP2OJZsxUYshIO0uYGH53xEJoT8an-RJksErk8ICaLUtFXpW3yuEhDyz_QnQ-Jirz2csUckRkTTHdOPV0afHAA7g2bRR8yxACQcG0KDrmyqnXdxTYRG14YRPrkQ8s/s320/010.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm6Bst1LpQw2DrkaIx7rTGF7kngvt0TMO0Ol3u_agll5emLmLxpHdqfpdwzv81dlk3qPMiy3e_1KdRH6U-hZKXSU0mve4kA1MfTv-j_8X8MKEj-WYoPH0QolhIY95Ct4buyhQm3andDzgc/s1600-h/003.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395639972339190802" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm6Bst1LpQw2DrkaIx7rTGF7kngvt0TMO0Ol3u_agll5emLmLxpHdqfpdwzv81dlk3qPMiy3e_1KdRH6U-hZKXSU0mve4kA1MfTv-j_8X8MKEj-WYoPH0QolhIY95Ct4buyhQm3andDzgc/s320/003.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnqym_ovOom3qR3GHR1Wr3lq8fOmGhafOR4MFTi-O37S5IiRv0Oxktwj588VKNknO27h3BZ_4lFxYqmqp9ciXFbD-6hukFlKVujDBccS-hwU7U5PTYoGgXvNmABBbhqu9u_fDwF3eG2mQH/s1600-h/002.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395639964874516114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnqym_ovOom3qR3GHR1Wr3lq8fOmGhafOR4MFTi-O37S5IiRv0Oxktwj588VKNknO27h3BZ_4lFxYqmqp9ciXFbD-6hukFlKVujDBccS-hwU7U5PTYoGgXvNmABBbhqu9u_fDwF3eG2mQH/s320/002.JPG" /></a> The picture to the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">right</span> is of Paul and I on our closing day-celebrating at Happy Hour!
